Tasso Suites & Spa Review: Is It Worth Staying Here?

Choosing the right hotel in Sorrento was an important part of planning our trip to the Amalfi Coast. We wanted somewhere central, with easy access to restaurants, the train station and the ferry terminal, without paying the higher hotel prices we were finding in Amalfi and Positano. In this Tasso Suites & Spa review, we’ll share why we chose this Sorrento hotel, what we thought of our stay and whether we’d recommend it.

We spent three nights at Tasso Suites & Spa, staying in a spacious one-bedroom apartment with our two kids. The location turned out to be excellent, the breakfast was generous, and the staff were particularly helpful when we ran into problems with our ferry bookings. Not everything was perfect, though, and there were a couple of things about the room we didn’t love.

Here’s what you should know about staying at Tasso Suites & Spa, including the rooms, amenities, location and whether we thought it offered good value for the money.

Why We Chose Tasso Suites & Spa

During our 3-day visit to the Amalfi Coast, we had planned many activities. We needed access to the train station, the ferry terminal and lots of good food options. Of all the hotels in Sorrento we considered, Tasso Suites & Spa had one of the best locations, just an 8-minute walk from the train station and a 6-minute walk from the ferry terminal.

We also chose Sorrento because hotel prices in nearby Amalfi and Positano were too high for our budget. We were very happy to stay in the logistical centre of the Amalfi Coast and take day trips to the most expensive towns in the region.

Travelling with our older kids, we also wanted a one-bedroom suite so everyone could have some privacy. We all sleep better, and travel better, when we have our own space

Tasso Suites & Spa Location in Sorrento

The hotel’s central location made exploring Sorrento easy. We could walk to the train station, ferry terminal, restaurants and shops without needing our own transportation.

It was also just one block away from Piazza Sant’Antonino as well as the amazing Mirante Piazza Tasso e nave Vespucci viewpoint. We had near limitless choices of restaurants for dinner; the hardest part was choosing which one to eat at!

Our One-Bedroom Suite at Tasso Suites & Spa

We had a very spacious 1-bedroom apartment at the Tasso Suites & Spa. Our bedroom was a simple set-up with a single queen bed, some shelves and a big window that opened for some amazing fresh air.

Our kids’ twin beds were in the main living area, which also had a massive soaker tub. Looking back, I wish we had tried the tub; it was pretty amazing!

Our room had air conditioning, but during our mid-April visit to Sorrento, we were able to cool it naturally by keeping the windows open. The lack of bugs this time of year made this very easy.

How Clean Was Tasso Suites & Spa?

The hotel and our room were nice and clean, I have no complaints about the cleanliness of the Tasso Suites & Spa.

Tasso Suites & Spa Amenities and Breakfast

Tasso Suites & Spa does have a private spa called T-SPA, although we never saw it during our stay. We didn’t use the facilities, so I can’t comment on the spa experience.

The generous breakfast buffet started at 7:30 AM. Their excellent selection included yogurt, bread, pastries, eggs, bacon, fresh fruit, cereal and cappuccino. They can also make your eggs to order upon request.

What We Liked About Tasso Suites & Spa

Beyond the excellent location, what impressed us most about Tasso Suites was the helpful staff. When I had trouble with our Amalfi Coast ferry bookings, the front desk went above and beyond to help resolve the problem.

What Could Be Better

My biggest complaint was that the beds were too soft for my liking. They seemed like high-quality beds, but my back wasn’t a big fan.

I also didn’t like that the TVs came on each time we entered the room. They have the TVs programmed to advertise tours, but I found it a bit annoying to have to search for the remote each time we came back to our room.

Was It Good Value for the Money?

We thought Tasso Suites & Spa offered excellent value for the money. Hotels in Amalfi and Positano were too rich for our blood, so being able to stay somewhere this nice in Sorrento was a real treat.

Aside from the soft bed, we liked everything about this hotel, including the food, the staff and the excellent location.

More From Our Italy Trip

Sorrento was the tail end of a longer trip through Rome, the Bay of Naples, Pompeii and the Amalfi Coast. If you’re planning a similar trip, our other first-hand articles cover the places we stayed and what we did along the way.

We started with 24 hours in Rome before travelling south to Ercolano, where we stayed near Pompeii, Herculaneum and Mount Vesuvius. You can read our Hotel Herculaneum review if you’re following a similar route through the Bay of Naples. From there, we spent three days on Ischia before finishing our trip in Sorrento.

We had planned two full days in Sorrento, although one was lost to food poisoning. We made the most of our remaining day with a day trip to the Amalfi Coast from Sorrento, including stops in Amalfi and Positano.
